There are categories of magazine that for various reasons are not suited to the technique of the main NRS Survey. One such category is Computer magazines, a large and dynamic market with a long list of titles, too long a list for NRS to absorb without an unacceptably large extension to the Survey's media list. A further complication is that many of these magazines have similar sounding names, posing the potential for title confusion amongst respondents.
Therefore NRS decided to conduct a separate survey of computer magazines using a self-completion questionnaire following the standard interview. This technique was tested on almost 50 computer title between August and December 2001, the results of which were released to NRS subscribers in September 2002 under the name NRS Xtra.
The survey of Computer Magazines was resumed in July 2002 for a full 12 months, providing a sample of over 30,000 individuals. Readership estimates have been published for over 50 computer publications for the period July 2002 to June 2003. Data is available to NRS subscribers on this website, or via the authorised computer bureaux.
